I’m pretty sure at least a few of you watch Food Network and have seen ads for the Great American Bake Sale. It raises funds annually for Share Our Strength, an incredible organization with the singular goal of ending child hunger in America.
Last year, a fellow food blogger, Gaby Dalkin, of Los Angeles, organized a companion event just for us: the Food Blogger Bake Sale. She’s tremendously ambitious and organized (just look at her page about the event!), gaining supporters and organizers for each state in the union. Guess who raised her hand this year for Arkansas?
That’s right, me. I’ll share more details soon about other local bloggers who are participating, too. (Wanna help? Leave a message!) Together, we’ll prepare items from our blogs and garner donations from our favorite chefs and bakers, culminating in the mother of all bake sales on Saturday, May 14.
Location? As of yet, undetermined. I’m shooting for a couple spots but haven’t heard back. (If you can help here, too, leave a message!)
My goal here is twofold for the event. First, of course, we’ll raise funds for one of the most fabulous hunger organizations out there. But secondly, we can gain awareness for Share Our Strength in Arkansas and get their fabulous education program, Cooking Matters, started here. (I. Want. To. Teach. This.)
Again, leave a message below (including Twitter handle and/or email) or email me at info at fancypantsfoodie dot com if you can help in the following areas:
- Location (preferably outdoor, covered, and near a kitchen)
- Product (any baked or similar goodie)
- Packaging (plastic wrap, clamshell or other containers, labels, etc.)
- Publicity (On your blog, Twitter, Facebook or otherwise)
- Freebies/Handouts (Especially coupons for healthy foods, shopping bags)
- Signage (Banners, posters, etc.)
And mark your calendars to treat yourself on May 14! Details to come…stay tuned.
